Overwhelm and Paralysis Analysis
Jun 28, 2022Overview
Raise your hand if you are overwhelmed. (Okay, we know that this is only a blog, but did your hand just go up?!) Being overwhelmed is something that everyone experiences in daily life, but is made especially potent when trying to start a business. Having to deal with large amounts of information coming from all sides can create a sense of analysis paralysis, where it’s difficult to know what to do.
In this blog, learn how to minimize analysis paralysis, and obtain some ways to cut through distractions to help you reach your goals.
Write. Sort. Cut Out Background Noise.
Personally, what I’ve found to be helpful for both the providers that I coach and for myself is to, whenever I’m feeling overwhelmed by all the different thoughts going through my head, take out a sheet of paper and just list down all the things that I’m dealing with, whether they’re work-related or not. When you write them down, you may find that some things you’re dealing with align in some categories. When that happens, you can group them together so it feels more manageable.
Once you have these categories sorted out, you can set up different blocks of time to focus on each task, that way when you are working on something you won’t have to be worrying about all the other things going on, since you’ve already set up a time for you to deal with them. This also helps a great deal with keeping a good work-life balance, which can be very tough to do as an entrepreneur. This system has helped me a great deal personally because it keeps me from feeling like I am neglecting things simply by working on others that have a higher priority. So, designate a time to attack the priorities, and turn off your notifications while doing it!
Decipher through Conflicting Advice
The next thing I want to talk about is how to deal with it when everyone’s giving you different, conflicting advice. How do you sort good advice from bad? Often, when starting a practice people take bits of advice from different places and end up moving forward without a clear plan. This can be harmful to the long-term success of your practice. Much like nutrition plans, a lot of different strategies work, but you have to pick one and commit to it.
The mentor coaching program in the Origins Incubator is very useful, and each of those mentors has valuable insight into succeeding, just don’t try to follow the advice of all these coaches simultaneously. While working on a course, just focus on that one course, and it will be far more beneficial than if you try to focus on everything all at once. Once you’ve finished a course and mastered that skill, then you can move on to the next one and keep adding tools to your arsenal.
